As a riverfront community, with two boat marinas and a public boat launch, water sports and both summer and winter fishing are frequent activities. A welcoming park within the Village Square is a favorite spot for daily treks, family gatherings and community events. Afton Alps State Park is a recreational destination, and is home to Afton Alps now owned by Vail Resorts. The city of Afton is quaint, and it’s home to a variety of charming retail shops. Restaurants include established local favorites, as well as new venues that add to the mix. Afton serves the locals well, and welcomes visitors making a day trip. There is a hotel and several bed and breakfasts for out-of-town travelers. The city of Afton is an artistic community and hosts several festivals. Among the most noteworthy: the annual Art in the Park and the Strawberry Festival. Monthly events, community nights, art gallery openings and musical happenings occur throughout the year.
