Located in Washington County, Lake Elmo lies in a rural setting with active farmland and thriving residential neighborhoods nestled in wide-open spaces. The city’s boundaries are established by Hwy 36 to the north, I-94 to the south and I-694 to the west. The quaint downtown is a gathering spot with hometown conveniences, including a post office, a library and the Lake Elmo Inn.

The City of Lake Elmo is home to 18 parks. Lake Elmo Park Reserve occupies 2,165 acres with 80 percent of its acreage set aside for preservation and protection. It is a destination for activities from camping to boating to horseback riding, and swimming in the man-made two-acre swimming pond. Lighted trails welcome hikers and skiers throughout the year. Sunfish Lake Park is an important symbol of the quiet rural character of Lake Elmo. The park is home to a wealth of wildlife and provides one of the best opportunities for bird-watching in the seven-county metro area.
